Can you complete an I-9 form online?+

Can I fill out my own I-9?+
You complete Section 1 yourself — your personal details and your attestation of work authorization — on or before your first day of employment. You cannot complete or attest to Section 2 for yourself. That is the employer's responsibility: they examine your documents and complete Section 2 within three business days of your start date.
Where do I file or send Form I-9?+
Nowhere. Unlike most government forms, Form I-9 is never filed with USCIS or ICE. Your employer retains the completed form on file and must make it available for inspection if requested by the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Labor, or Department of Justice.

What documents do I need to complete Form I-9?+

Photocopies are generally not accepted.
How long must an employer keep Form I-9?+
Employers must retain each completed Form I-9 for three years after the employee's date of hire, or one year after employment ends — whichever date is later. Employers may not keep the employee's identity or work-authorization documents themselves unless a remote review required it.
