My PDF is too large or too complex

Your PDF exceeds 50 MB, is password-protected, or contains a scan the OCR cannot read? Here are the proven workarounds β€” most resolve via in-browser compression, no install required.

PDF >50 MB

Our limit per file is 50 MB. Beyond that, use our compressor tool before import.

Most PDFs over 50 MB contain unoptimised high-resolution images.

Password-protected PDF

If your PDF is locked, first open it in your browser (Chrome or Safari) or Adobe Reader, enter the password, then use "Print > Save as PDF" to produce an unlocked copy importable into iFillPDF.

You must legitimately own the password β€” iFillPDF does not bypass any protection (cf. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in the US, Computer Misuse Act in the UK).

Form not detected by AI

For scanned PDFs, OCR (AWS Textract eu-central-1) activates automatically. If scan quality is poor, redo it at 300 dpi minimum, in colour (not B&W), without rotation.

For complex AcroForm forms (multi-page government forms, notarial contracts), you can manually trace fields in "advanced editor" mode.

PDF split across multiple files to merge before filling

If your PDF is fragmented across several files (e.g. main form + annexes + bank details), first combine them with the iFillPDF merge tool (free, up to 20 files, client-side processing without server upload).

Then import the unified PDF into the compression tool if combined size exceeds 50 MB.
